Movies can provoke strong emotions and inspiration from anyone of us. It brings back train of memories in us. It pushes us to dream, hope and fall in love again.
I want to share these 10 inspirational movies and inspirational quotes from each movie which struck a deep chord inside my heart…what I really want, need, and feel right this moment!
1. KITE RUNNER – Many life lessons and morality issues
“It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime…” – Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner
“There is only one sin. and that is theft… when you tell a lie, you steal someones right to the truth.” – Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner
“It was only a smile, nothing more. It didn’t make everything all right. It didn’t make ANYTHING all right. Only a smile. A tiny thing. A leaf in the woods, shaking in the wake of a startled bird’s flight. But I’ll take it. With open arms. Because when spring comes, it melts the snow one flake at a time, and maybe I just witnessed the first flake melting. – Amir” – Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner
“Not a word passes between us, not because we have nothing to say, but because we don’t have to say anything” – Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner
“There are a lot of children in Afghanistan, but little childhood.”
Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner
2. CINDERELLA MAN -Movie about love, friendship, humility, sacrifice and never giving up.
have to believe that when things are bad I can change them.
If we can’t stay together, that means we’ve lost, that means we’ve given up!
3. THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION – Movie about hope and friendship .
Red : I find I’m so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it’s the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.
Andy: I guess it comes down to a simple choice. Get busy living or get busy dying
Andy: So you don’t forget… forget that there are places in the world that aren’t made out of stone. That there’s something inside that they can’t get to, that they can’t touch. It’s yours.
Red: What are you talking about?
Andy: Hope
4. THE DEAD POETS SOCIETY – Teaches how to live “extraordinary” and enriching lives
“We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
“Two roads diverged in the wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
… carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.”
Now we all have a great need for acceptance, but you must trust that your beliefs are unique, your own, even though others may think them odd or unpopular, even though the herd may go
5. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL – is not about Nazis and Fascists, but about the human spirit.
Guido: (learning how to be a waiter) How far do I bow? I suppose I can even go 180 degrees.
Eliseo: Think of a sunflower, they bow to the sun. But if you see some that are bowed too far down, it means they’re dead. You’re here serving, you’re not a servant. Serving is the supreme art. God is the first of servants. God serves men, but he’s not a servant to men.
Nothing is more necessary than the unnecessary.
6. FINDING NEVERLAND – This movie reminds us that life, coloured by our perceptions, is what we make it; all we have to do is believe.
.M. Barrie: You find a glimmer of happiness in this world, there’s always someone who wants to destroy it. »
Peter Llewelyn Davies: This is absurd. It’s just a dog.
J.M. Barrie: Just a dog? *Just*?
[to Porthos]
J.M. Barrie: Porthos, don’t listen!
[to Peter]
J.M. Barrie: Porthos dreams of being a bear, and you want to shatter those dreams by saying he’s *just* a dog? What a horrible candle-snuffing word. That’s like saying, “He can’t climb that mountain, he’s just a man”, or “That’s not a diamond, it’s just a rock.” Just.
7. AMELIE – it’s about believing in yourself and changing your life.
So, little Amélie, your bones aren’t made of glass. You can take life’s knocks. If you let this chance go by, eventually your heart will become as dry and brittle as my skeleton.
We pass the time of day to forget how time passes.
8. I M SAM and FOREST GUMP– determination, courage, and love are more important than intellectual ability
Mrs. Gump: Life’s a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you’re gonna get.
Sam: You think what they think.
Rita: It doesn’t matter what I think. It matters that we win.
Sam: No, you think what they think. You think Sam can’t take care of Lucy!
Rita: Sam, it doesn’t matter what I think!
Sam: It matters to me!
Rita: I just don’t know what to call you: retarded, mentally retarded, mentally handicapped, mentally disabled, intellectually handicapped, intellectually disabled, developementally disabled…
Sam: You can call me Sam.
9. Fried Green Tomatoes– Friendship, female empowerment.
A heart can be broken but it still keeps a beating!
Ninny Threadgoode: I found out what the secret to life is: friends. Best friends.
You are absolutely, unconditionally, positively the most stubborn person I’ve ever known in my life!
10. THE NOTEBOOK– A beautiful love story which lasts decades.
“Poets often describe love as an emotion that we can’t control, one that overwhelms logic and common sense. That’s what it was like for me. I didn’t plan on falling in love with you, and I doubt if you planned on falling in love with me. But once we met, it was clear that neither of us could control what was happening to us. We fell in love, despite our differences, and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created. For me, love like that has happened only once, and that’s why every minute we spent together has been seared in my memory. I’ll never forget a single moment of it.”
“I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough..”
“So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me… everyday.”
“You can’t live your life for other people. You’ve got to do what’s right for you, even if it hurts some people you love.”
“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I’ve ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours. ”
“You are, and always have been, my dream.”
“We fell in love, despite our differences, and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created. For me, love like that has only happened once, and that’s why every minute we spent together has been seared in my memory. I’ll never forget a single moment of it.”
“You are my best friend as well as my lover, and I do not know which side of you I enjoy the most. I treasure each side, just as I have treasured our life together.”
“You are the answer to every prayer I’ve offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I don’t know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have.”
“My daddy said, that the first time you fall in love, it changes you forever and no matter how hard you try, that feeling just never goes away.”
“They didn’t agree on much. In fact, they didn’t agree on anything. They fought all the time and challenged each other ever day. But despite their differences, they had one important thing in common. They were crazy about each other.”
“In time, the hurt began to fade and it was easier to just let it go. At least I thought it was. But in every boy I met in the next few years, I found myself looking for you, and when the feelings got too strong, I’d write you another letter. But I never sent them for fear of what I might find. By then, you’d gone on with your life and I didn’t want to think about you loving someone else. I wanted to remember us like we were that summer. I didn’t ever want to lose that.”
“In times of grief and sorrow I will hold you and rock you and take your grief and make it my own. When you cry I cry and when you hurt I hurt. And together we will try to hold back the floods to tears and despair and make it through the potholed street of life”
“We sit silently and watch the world around us. This has taken a lifetime to learn. It seems only the old are able to sit next to one another and not say anything and still feel content. The young, brash and impatient, must always break the silence. It is a waste, for silence is pure. Silence is holy. It draws people together because only those who are comfortable with each other can sit without speaking. This is the great paradox.”
“She was my dream. She made me who I am, and holding her in my arms was more natural to me than my own heartbeat. I think about her all the time. Even now, when I’m sitting here, I think about her. There could never have been another.”
“The reason it hurts so much to separate is because our souls are connected. Maybe they always have been and will be. Maybe we’ve lived a thousand lives before this one and in each of them we’ve found each other. And maybe each time, we’ve been forced apart for the same reasons. That means that this goodbye is both a goodbye for the past ten thousand years and a prelude to what will come.”
I hope you will rediscover values and inspirations from these movies. This is not an absolute list. These 10 inspirational movies are my list for this summer.

I know people who equates success with money, wealth or career, and self-independence. Same people who scoffs at my idea to return back in the Philippines. “There is no money in the Philippines!” they say.
I told them success isn’t about achieving something in the future, but about doing something right now what you love…just like what Henry David Thoreau said:
“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.” –
What I always imagined is always here inside my room. I am sharing you my seven secrets of success for everyday:
I believe it is necessary to save riches in heaven. This is the highest aim we can have. Let us focus our priorities and our thoughts on heavenly things like love, peace of mind, generostity, etc with people we interact with everyday. Then, we are saving our treasures in heaven
“where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” -Matthew 6:19-21
How many times in a day are we losing our temper and composure? How do we handle our stressful job, a nagging wife, a jealous partner, irritating client or co-worker, traffic, etc?? I like the way the Americans’ would say: “Cool Man!” We should be telling this mantra to ourselves first.
This does not refer only in beating deadlines or appointments. This is being aware of how much quality time are we spending with the person we love. There should not be “tomorrow” in making up with our mistakes or selfishness. The tme is now.
We are rational beings but oftentimes, we let our animal instinct and reflex to get hold on us . “Hold your horses” they say or count up to 10 when our negative emotions are at its peak.
The world cannot be only a physical place, it can be looking inside the “world” of a child, an old person, a sick person, a prostitute, an addict, a homosexual, or anyone who is marginalize by our society. If we manage to discover and penetrate their world, compassion and generosity will grow in us.
Everyday is a learning and lifetime process. Anyone who stops learning is old whether you are twenty and eighty says Henry Ford. Do you agree?
Failures and obstacles should not block us. The song of “WIN” by Brian Mcknight must be a humming tune inside our hearts in times of downfalls.
Success for me is finding joy, passion, love, awesome-ness right now, in this moment. This is a success one can achieve, without any self-help course, without any method. Just go out and do it. Share it as well.

I love the story about the high school basketball coach who was attempting to motivate his players to persevere through a difficult season. Halfway through the season he stood before the team and said,”Did Micheal Jordan ever quit?” The team responded,”No!” He yelled,”What about Wright brothers?Did they ever give up?” “No!” hollered back the team.”Did Muhammad Ali ever quit?” Again the team yelled, “No!” “Did Elmer McAllister ever quit?”

Success: To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
